Rotary Club of Gerringong
The Rotary Club of Gerringong Sunrise is a proud member of Rotary District 9705 and was chartered on 25 June 2003.
Gerringong /Gerroa is a small town of around 4,000 people, located "Where the mountains meet the sea" about one hundred and twenty kilometres south of Sydney, Australia.
Gerringong was originally a dairy community, although tourism is now the major industry. However, our community still retains a friendly, village feel. During the last ten years the town has grown rapidly and this growth is expected to continue.
One of the founding principles of Gerringong Sunrise Rotary Club was to have a successful mixed gender club, and we have achieved that with an even split between men and women members. Great benefits in fellowship arise from focus and with current and previous presidents both being women a balanced range of issues are always being addressed.
Another of our original goals was to work closely with the community. We organise a monthly market, work with Kiama Rotary Club to raise funds through the Kiama Car Expo, conduct free skin care checks for early detection of melanoma, coordinate dance sessions for people suffering from dementia and support local charities, sporting and community groups.
The proceeds from our fundraising activities, support both local and international charities and also fund many local youth programs. During the 2018/19 financial year over $65,000 was raised and distributed to various Rotary projects and local community service groups - not bad for a small club with 47 members. [more]
